What is Navaratri?
Navaratri means "nine nights." Over nine nights, a different form of Durga — a warrior form of the Divine Mother — is honored each night. Together, in the tradition, these nine forms are understood to move through a full arc: from strength and grounding, through discipline and courage, to clarity, grace, and fulfillment. The festival closes on the tenth day with Dussehra — the day of victory.

Day 1-3: Purification
This stage cleanses us of lower qualities and old patterns — likes, dislikes, lust, jealousy, pride, and envy. It’s the removal of negativity to make room for divine love to awaken in the heart.
Day 2
Brahmacāriṇī
“The Mother of the Sādhakas,” she walks permanently in devotion, never moving away from the Satguru’s Lotus Feet. She teaches single-pointed, tireless focus — to keep trying no matter how long the goal takes.
Day 3
Candraghaṇṭā
Both peaceful and fierce, sweet and intense at once. Her bell is an alarm clock that awakens the sleeping mind and brings it back to the present moment.
Day 4-6: Awakening
Once negativity is conquered, positive qualities: love, compassion, joy, generosity — emerge and flourish.
Day 4
Kūṣmāṇḍā
The one who puts an end to arrogance and the evil tendencies born of pride. She removes self-importance from the mind and restores humility and love.
Day 5
Skanda-Mātā
The ultimate example of a loving mother, fiercely protective and endlessly nurturing of her child. She gives courage to open the heart and surrender fully to the Satguru.
Day 6
Kātyāyanī
Slayer of the demon Mahishasur, who symbolizes the ego. She grants complete mastery over the three gunas and liberation from the ego’s grip.
Day 7-9: Transformation
Having overcome negativity and been imbued with positive qualities, we now receive the blessing of knowledge and wisdom needed to hold onto them.
Day 7
Kālarātrī
“The Mother of Time,” fierce and dark in form, yet the sweetest at heart. She dissolves fear and negativity, revealing auspiciousness and blessings — hence she is also called Shubhankari.
Day 8
Mahā-Gaurī
Serene and radiant, she reveals the true Self once ignorance has been burned away. She is the guardian of family life and the embodiment of single-pointed devotion.
Day 9
Siddhidātrī
The final form worshiped before Dussehra, constantly giving and blessing. She represents complete union and surrender, embodying what is received when one is fully devoted to the Satguru’s Lotus Feet.

Dussehra
The Victory of Light
Dussehra marks Durga's victory over Mahishasura and in many regions Rama's victory over Ravana — both symbolizing good triumphing over evil. At Shree Peetha Nilaya, it's celebrated with a closing puja in gratitude for the nine nights.

Puja & Abishekam
Take part in traditional worship of the Divine Mother. Abhishekam is a sacred bathing ceremony performed as an expression of love, gratitude and devotion.
Kirtan & Bhajans
Kirtan and bhajans use sacred names, mantras and traditional songs to create a joyful atmosphere and help everyone connect with the Divine.
Prasad
Receive prasad—food that has first been offered to the Divine and then shared with everyone. It is accepted with gratitude as a sacred blessing.
Dance
Become part of the shared celebration - join the joyful circle dance and celebrate together through movement and music.
Yajna
An ancient Hindu fire ceremony. Prayers and symbolic offerings are placed into the flames for purification, protection and the wellbeing of all.
Devi-māhātmyam
Listen to stories of the Divine Mother overcoming darkness and restoring harmony, reminding us of the divine strength present within creation and within ourselves.
